Ginger update

I thought I would give an update on how Ginger’s doing at Silver Horse. Well, first of all, her and Patrick are in a field together and love it! Whenever I take Patrick away Ginger won’t stop whinnying. And same goes for Patrick when I take Ginger away. She’s a GREAT horse and Sarah and I have been riding her to get her calmer, which is working! She went on a trail RIDE today and did amazing. We were a little worried that walking by the cars and through the canal would scare her but turns out the horse I rode, who is SO well trained, wasn’t even as quiet as her! She surprised everyone on the ride at how well behaved she was. Here is short video.

Rose Bud

Our family wanted to update everyone on Rosie. We renamed her Caylpso and she is doing great!!! We want everyone to know how much we appreciate your hard work and dedication!! Caylpso has come a full circle, she knows the sound of our vehicle. We see her five days a week and she has turned into a loving and caring horse. If it was not for Equine Outreach we would not have found her!!! We love her so much and we are so blessed. If you are ever in the area of McMinnville, call us and we would love for you to see her!! Go to Facebook @ Caroline A Kruse and see her videos. We will update them monthly and share with everyone her progress! We saw that Cowboy was adopted and we are so pleased that he found a forever home!! God bless and happy trails! XOXOXO from Caylpso aka Rosie

Mischa’s Feet

Since the last Farrier day I have been making a concentrated effort to work with Mischa about her feet. That day it took two sedatives and people standing on either side of her before Tobias could get to work. She just kept spinning when he went to her back. I have never seen a horse so determined to move despite being so drugged! Anyway, I have been bringing her out to groom as often as I can and she has made huge progress. At first she would spin when I moved toward her flank but I kept my hand on her until she stopped and kept at it. She now stands reasonably still to be groomed head to tail (although I still don’t walk to the other side behind her - don’t have the guts to try it yet). To get to her back feet I have been working my hands down her neck and body until she tries to move away. I keep my hands on her until she stops and then start over. Again we have made lots of progress, for the last two days I have been able to pick up all her feet. However, I can’t manage to hold on to them. 5 seconds tops before she pulling the foot away from me. She is relaxed and it isn’t a fear issue anymore but there is no way she is letting me hold onto it. It feels more like she has decided to make a compromise “you can have my foot but I decide for how long.” She is conditioning me. So now I am stuck. How do I get beyond this point?

Vegas and Pearl

Vegas was in a great mood today and we accomplished quite a bit. She came out of her paddock very easily, and we got right to work. She doesn’t always like do the same thing, but enjoys tossing it up a bit to keep her interest and curiosity. So, we worked on the seven games, targeting and such. She often has a hard time walking between the water bins just past her paddock, so today I backed her through them. She was so involved with that, that we cruised right through. She is really coming along nicely and took far less time getting down to the grooming area.

Once we got to the grooming station, her personality really kicked into gear. She always becomes such a ham when I groom her. She likes to check out what’s in the grooming kits and to see if she can push over the chairs. Today she let me brush her longer than she ever has and afterwards she looked absolutely stunning with that long black mane of hers.

I decided I wanted to get her into the arena to give her a little work out, so that is just what we did. Vegas trotted with me all the way over to the arena after being groomed. Yes, that’s right, she trotted. It was incredible because for those of you who know Vegas, she is very intelligent and generally likes to conserve her energy:) Read more »
